Mutronic, Enter, Titanus,
A subatomic, Cargant-u-chronic behemoth is revealed,
Devastating demonic crude combusts corroded Steel
Ravaging our sacred lands,
Mankind fights his final stand
Dawn of ruin,
Embrace your son.
Doomsday's begun.
Flee or fight or Die.
A tanformination of desolation landscape stands before,
Cascading city horizons have been pounded to the floor
Our nations defence beyond repair,
A Colossus snuffs your final prayers,
Bow to your knees and hope for haste,
As you're laid to waste.
ENTER TITANUS
Written about – A Giant Robot destroying all mankind with no hope of survival
Influenced by – Listening to Judas Priests’ Nostradamus and erm…. Well…. Was hoping we could have a little of the older stuff that we grew up with to be polite about it, instead of 2CD’s of strange waffle. We tried to make a modern thrash song in the style of the metal gods and the tour with Testament to cheer us up.
During the demos – I spent ages wracking my brains thinking of a colossal world-destroying robot name. ‘Titanus’ was supposed to be the name of a giant fear provoking robot (after watching the Duff beer calendar competition with the large chested lady called ‘titana’). I mailed the (what I thought was serious) lyrics to the lads and got replies back with ‘ha ha Tight anus!’ or ‘your robot is well gay’ which got drastically overlooked on my part. After fighting my corner (badly), you hear before you today 8 grown men in a small room singing about tight anus’s. Eeeewwwww.
Tit + Anus = Tight Anus!
2. Let's Go Apeshit
The tour has hit the city,
The wrecking crew is here,
So bring along your bourbon, blunts & beer
Regret the pain tomorrow,
Coz were living for tonight
The brotherhood of metal makes it right
It's the first can of the day,
There'll be a lot more if I get my way
Heading to the city,
The station's getting near,
We'll make tonight the pissup of the year
Then a shot turns into five,
Sneak past the guards when we arrive
I'll hate my self tomorrow,
But give me tonight
We're getting wasted,
Just gimmie tonight,
And let's go apeshit
There may be lovers
Buit's bros before ho's
Nobody makes the rules,
That's just how we roll
Smash my head in when I wake tomorrow,
Until then, Just let it fucking go
Refuse get up and get out of the pub,
An early bedtime then turns into a club,
The taxi fare becomes a twelve inch sub,
Now I know that I'm fucked!
LETS GO APESHIT
Written about – Going to Manchester on the train and getting too shitfaced be able to get home, being fully aware that you are going to suffer in the morning (by girlfriend / the shakes etc) but only caring about where the next pint is coming from right now.
Influenced by – See above.
During the demos – The lyrics were in the same style as Megadeths ‘wake up dead’ about sneaking in after midnight but instead of ‘Diana’ the other woman was ‘beer’. This got changed after a very memorable(?) night, watching SUPERgroup Down in top form at Manchester academy. My pregnant Mrs. had to carry me to a taxi as I was so drunk but I refused to go home. Not big or clever but it spawned a nice song so I was forgiven(ish).
H.O.D. Trivia – The end riff needed ‘something’ to end the epic nature of the song & Paul (Nog/Anaal Nathrakh) volunteered to do a solo. He made it so epic it could only ever merit an explosion on the end of it…. so that’s what we did.
3. The Iron Matron
Trapped in a hospice,
Strapped in a bed,
The Iron Matron,
Will soon see you dead.
She’ll hold you down,
With her awful icy stare,
She’ll take a rusty razor and shave your pubic hair.
The Iron Matron she comes...
To kill you all
No chance to run away,
And nothing you can say
She’s creeping to your room,
With needles for your doom
Better run away,
No-one to save the day
A demon in costume,
This ward becomes your tomb
Instruments to save life,
Are used for awful deeds,
The only smile she ever gives,
Is when she watches patients bleed,
You’ll never breakout,
From this hospital of death,
Her garter grips your throat,
As you draw your final breath
THE IRON MATRON
Written about – A freaky Nurse who would like to kill a lot of people
Influenced by – Having our music played by Bruce Dickinson in April 08, we were so nervous and proud combined, some of us were close to vomiting so a song title was born to say thanks in our own little way. At one stage every song name was going to be a maiden title, with a 11 minute sea shanty called ‘rhyme of the ancient mariners pie’ about the life and times of captain birdseye. That may still happen one day.
During the demos – Pretty straight forward this one, this was the first song we demo’d for the album so we asked Dave to write some lyrics and he banged them together in no time. He’d have done more but he enjoys his PS3 and massive TV so much it’s cruel to pull him away as he’s starts to get angry, shakes and starts to sweat. This song merited a little dance of us going ‘YEAH, new album WILL happen one day!’
H.O.D. Trivia – As we’ve had this song since March 08, this has been busting around the live circuit for well over a year now, as of this blog it’s only been out a week and we’ve played it to death!
4. Deadly Wheels Of Steel
Round and round and round they go,
Will they stop? Oh HELL no,
They'll make us pay for our hanus deeds,
Brutal justice on killer steeds
From the future? We'll never know,
Comes judgement cast with a fatal blow
Killer Cyborg, Judges riding, Deadly wheels of...
The jury's out, You cannot hide,
On cursed cyberbikes they ride
No end in sight for you and I,
It's time to fight, It's do or die
We'll open up a can
O whup-ass pie on the
Killer Cyborg,
Judges riding,
Deadly wheels of steel
Here they come, Hear them come...
They're coming around the bend,
On deadly wheels of flesh they'll rend
Unstoppable machines,
Are worse than your worst dreams
You'd better hope and pray,
Someone's left to save the day,
Your blood will surely spray,
If you get in their way.
Round and round and round they go,
They'll never stop, That we know,
Feeding on our every sins,
Making lampshades from our skins,
It's time to kiss your flabby arse goodbye,
Here come the... Deadly Wheels Of Steel!
DEADLY WHEELS OF STEEL
Written about – Killer cyborg judges, riding on their deadly wheels of steel, to come and punish the guilty…and innocent too for good measure.
Influenced by – Lots of comics, Judge Dread especially from back in the day when anthrax prompted us to read them (I AM THE LAWWWW!).
During the demos – Was originally pencilled to be a song about monkeys playing crazy golf to save mankind but even that was too silly by our lofty heights. Ste did some lyrics for which he thought was a different song while at work and to be fair, they pissed all over all the others we had. POW! Democracy in action.
5. Helms Deep
White hand of Saurauman calls to arms,
Scorching the village, Burning the farms
Women and children to the keep,
Brothers of Rohan... To Helms Dep
The calling of man,
Stand side by side,
Earth will fall and burn,
Or Rohan will ride,
Farmers, Ferriers, Stableboys,
Now fighters old and new,
Shoulder to shoulder we will stand,
And see the red-dawn through
We've culled fell deeds from battles past,
We shall defend these walls
Ten thousand come,
Ten thousand fall,
Destroy the orcs
Destroy them all
Blood red pools,
With black tar,
These gates have to hold
Horns will sound,
One last time
To death or glory ride.
The walls are breached,
The keep will fall
Leave the dead,
The wounded save
Hope has forsaken these lands,
So retreat to the caves
Swords will clash & shields will splinter,
Manflesh shall not feast,
At first light on the fifth day,
At dawn, Look to the east
HELMS DEEP
Written about – Lord Of The Rings’ Riders Of Rohan and the epic battle for Helms Deep in the second Two Towers outing. The film had to be watched at least twice that day for….erm…research purposes. Not to lounge about and eat crisps a lot, no siree Bob.
Influenced by – In the pre-H.O.D. days, Ste and Stu were in a two man power-metal bedroom band called ‘Strength & Honour’, dedicating riffs to the life and time of the Roman empire but never found a singer that could go high pitched enough to carry on. As 90% of the stuff will never see light of day, Stu bounced some riffs out of a couple of S&H songs for this, hence it sounding different and more ‘European’ sounding than normal!
6. Stairway To Hell
Crushed my Hope,
Can't wait any longer,
I drew a line in the sand,
Eyes dim grey, She's fading away,
May the gods guide my hand
Undead beat at my door,
Is this worth fighting for?
Arms swing back and they start to tremble,
I wait for the turn,
Her chest falls still,
Now it's my turn to kill.
For the damage is done,
Alone, I will move on,
Along, Until all are one,
I apologise, I missed the signs,
Her cries had gone ignored,
I stood my ground while those around,
Had barricaded doors
Unprepared to burn the stairs,
And wait to be devoured,
I tried to fight, She took a bite,
She'll be one of them in hours
Arms whip forward, It's time to end this,
And release all this pain,
'Til death do us part,
We go back to the start,
With spade to her brain,
Time to settle the score
STAIRWAY TO HELL
Written about – The moral dilemma of having to smash your wife's head in with a spade as she’s just been bitten by a zombie and will undoubtedly turn into ‘one of them’.
During the demos – This song was ‘the 13th’ song from the first album ‘Beer Bitches Blood’ but including it violated the pre-set rules we had from day one of the band - ‘No album shall go beyond 45 minutes’ so we shelved it for creatively titled ‘album two’. This song raised an A&R eyebrow or two as it had an acoustic guitar in and a riff with a death metal drumbeat.
This was originally penned about how upset we were with the public perception of Metallica nowadays on the eve of Death Magnetic being released, however, the new album blew my mind and I was reading the walking dead comics at the time so this felt right.
H.O.D. Trivia – As this song was being written during the birth of my son (one year old next week, wooo!) I took the Mrs. to the maternity ward. The nice ladies there tried to bond with my AC/DC shirt and told me their favourite song was Stairway to hell, mixing the titles up with Zeppelin. As opposed to being a rock snob or laughing at the folks, I said ‘yeah, me too’ & made a song with that name instead in gratitude to them.
7. Stormbringers
A noble king, A warrior,
Cursed with a frail shell
A crippled mans remains,
Condemned to live in hell
The lords of death will make this change,
With the one who tames the burning blade
To rise & rule the world,
From beyond the grave
Lo pan never rests,
His stormbringers ride
Two thousand year old quest,
For the girl with green eyes
The prophets sent the best,
Heedhese kung fu guys,
On the pork chop express,
For the girl with green eyes
Passing through the neighbourhood,
One dark & stormy night,
Born with lightning reflexes,
Born ready for the fight
Brings order in where chaos rules,
He rides the storm,
He's paid his dues,
To rise and atomise the
Baze of the green flame
The lighting crash,
The thunder rolls and the rain blots out the sun,
In the eye of the tornado, Jack Burton stands alone
We really shook the pillars of Hell
Collect my dues then I'll be on my way,
Look the storm straight in the eye,
Heed this tale, you might live to see the day
STORMBRINGERS
Written about – Piece of piss, it’s about Big Trouble In Little China!
During the demos – This was originally two songs, one (middle part) was called ‘the Grotter’ about our good friend & artist…erm…. whooo…shall we say….Touched a girl at a party then told us to sniff his triumphant fingers! Some folks have a copy of this song in demo format but it’s not album worthy. The other was clinically called HOD4 and was known for it’s brill verse and chorus but the middle bit was like an In Flamesy acousticy nicey bit, we don’t do ‘nice’ so we spliced the two songs together.
H.O.D. Trivia – Reverand Dave and his brother Paul had their photo taken with Lo Pan and politely asked him to say ‘She has green eyes’ at a comic convention. Indeed!
8. The King of Sweden
One fateful morn,
A child was born, In June of 63,
To be a master string-smith,
His destiny would be
The gods pulled out all stops
And give him tasty skills,
With flying picks and big high kicks,
He dishes out the thrills
Hail The King Of Sweden
Ten feet tall with giant hands
And fire in his eyes,
He has a mane of purest silk,
We're tellin' you no lies
A lot of twats play fender strats,
But he is the exception,
He makes it cool because he rules,
And gives us all erections
Hail The King Of Sweden
With a wall of Marshalls
He owns the fucking stage,
But bathe him in green or blue
He'll burn up with rage,
For those colours,
So I'm told,
May detract His glory
So listen well my metal friend,
Or He'll unleash the fury...
Hail The King Of Sweden !
THE KING OF SWEDEN
Written about – Praising the almighty Yngwie Malmsteen and living in the hope he may hear this song one day of us giving him kudos for his magnificence.
Influenced by – During one of the solos Stu used his Dean ‘Dimeslime’ guitar to make a personal solo in his honour in thanks, putting the RIP into ripping solo! Would have been his birthday today the poor bugger.
During the demos – The lyrics for this song were demo’d and written for nightbeast, we recorded the vocals which sounded hurried and like a generic thrash vocal, to be honest, it didn’t meet Dave’s style of singing. I took a deep breath and mailed Stu to say ‘listen fella, you’re going to have to either change the lyrics or do a new song to match the vocal’ he replied to say ‘Don’t worry, I’m doing a song now that is worthy of his honour, but I’ll warn you….I’m one minute into it and it’s ALL SOLO!’
I didn’t think we could up the ante of epic’ness but by god, fair play Stu lad. This was the last song wrote for the album so expect new stuff to be more like this I’m reckoning.
9. Nightbeast
A summers night barbeque,
The germ begins to breed,
Ripe and rotten through and through,
Spreading it's disease
Meat feast, Night Beast
Born in the flame,
He'll execute,
His murderous crusade,
New life for him (and death for you) from Satan's marinade
Meat feast, Night Beast, He rocks hard
Meat feast, Night Beast, He's rock hard
As humans flee,
His beef heart beats,
For the thrill of the chase,
If caught you'll be,
A rotisserie,
Spinning on his blades
Now is the reign of nightbeast,
Bow to your knees for the reign of nightbeast.
NIGHTBEAST
Written about – A leftover barbeque that comes to life and eats people for a change, some say it's pro-vegetarian, some say it's plain old stupid.
Influenced by – Megadeth is blatantly in there so lets not pretend eh?!
During the Demos – As I was waffling about on blog 2, this song was originally the king of Sweden but it was too 'wordy', meanwhile I was on the UK THRASH forums and spoke to an old-schooler called Mort, he wrote a song like this when he was a kid and was laughing about how puerile it was. I replied to say “What are you talking about? Thats amazing!” Then 'took' his lyrics and turned it into this. See, two albums in and we're getting outside writers.
H.O.D. Trivia – the picture of the original nightbeast on the inlay was from a barbeque in 2002 when the lads came over after I had an operation to wish me well but I was too sick to eat the food. Feemo 1 – benign growth on neck 0. WIN!
10. Two Glass Eyez
We cast off and set sail from Dover,
We head for the sun to Calais,
We shall prevail,
With two dozen ales
And a Drum of spiced rum on the way,
Rummy raiders,
Booze crusaders
We plundered the cheese ham and snide bread,
The canvas replaced by the bars,
Sunstroked and wishing we were dead,
Our lobster skin's our calling card
Then from the shade,
We surge for the stage,
Sail to the east,
For maidens and priests
At sun down, It's our town.
We squandered our treasure in Deutschland,
They danced for our pleasure in 'dam,
Burned but alive,
But we must survive,
With noodles and old tins of spam,
Stoned, Broke, With sunstroke.
TWO GLASS EYES
Written about – Going to foreign festivals and acting like typical drunken British idiots you see on BBC3, only more metal.
Influenced by - 24 warm beers, no knowledge of foreign languages, no suncream and some spirits hidden in a pop bottle.
During the Demos – This was the last song for the album and was the only one we've never had 100% ready, Stes macintosh kept failing us and Dave was having a camera (with attached laser) up his willy, hence the moniker 'Laserdick Dave'. The verse vocal line is very similar to the opening solo on Maidens 'The Clairvoyant' which still makes me laugh....lulz.
H.O.D. Trivia – The lyric 'sailed to the east for the maidens and priests' was written after coming home from gods of metal 08 (Italy) where Maiden played Saturday and Priest played Sunday. It was a fantastic weekend, must remember to get some speedos for next time!
11. Mole In The Ocean
Everyone of us,
Has gathered here because,
We made the road trip to the show,
New album's on the stereo,
Gathered in a queue,
Made the journey too
Get loaded and start to begin,
Release the metal beast within
All as one, In union,
Scream out loud
Here we are,
We're gathered in this hall,
United by the guiding light of true metal
From your heart,
Lets tear this place apart,
And celebrate the meaning of Rock 'N' Roll
It is glorious,
How a simple burst,
Of turning amps to overdrive,
Has turned around or changed our lives
Unifying us,
Across the universe,
The majesty of metal can combine us all
While you and I are still alive,
The thunder will live on
All as one,
In union,
Scream out loud
Here we are,
We're gathered in this hall,
United by the guiding light of true metal
Everyone of us,
Has gathered here because
We're drunk, We're high, We're in the pit
So stay out late and phone in sick,
From your heart,
Lets tear this place apart,
And celebrate the meaning of Rock 'N' Roll
Unifying us,
Across the universe,
The majesty of metal can combine us all!
MOLE IN THE OCEAN
Written about – A phonecall off Ste saying 'Why the fuck haven't we wrote a song about why we love metal so much?' BAM! DONE.
Influenced by – Us and many many others know the feeling of having to drive for hours on end to stand in a queue to see their favourite touring band. The smell of weed in the air (RIP), the adrenaline you get as they walk on stage... I guess it'd be the musical equivalent of your first footy game, I never been one though. I used to watch Runcorn FC from up a tree on the bypass! A nice cheesefest for an album closer.
H.O.D. Trivia – The title of this song is dedicated to our Brother in metal Mikey P, who helped us record this album at bloodstained studios. He joined Germany's 'The Ocean Collective' for two years and has seen the carparks of the world and partied with the best of them. It was always great to know that while we were doing mudane crap at work he was living the dream he always wanted to do.... The jammy fucker! ;)
12. Second Opinion
Written about – Is a nice closing theme to bookmark both albums with a medical cover version. This one is the theme from Quincey ME. We can't think of anymore (flying doctors was crap) so we'll try a different angle next time.
During the Demos – Was written in December 2006 so god knows!
H.O.D. Trivia – This song and 'Enter the HOD' (Casualty on BBB) were the first HOD songs ever written, we had them on our site as free downloads for six months but long story short, no-one gave a shit! We thought it'd be best to write a 'real' song each so Stu wrote 'Kicked to the kerb' and Ste wrote 'I am a Tiger' and that was that, HOD then had 4 songs with no singer! Wooooow.
