2006: The band presents a full line-up, constituted of guitarists Christian Lindell and Richard Lagergren, drummer Anders Persson, David Stranderud on bass and Philip Svennefelt on vocals. In June, the demo-tape Welcome to My Funeral is recorded. In September, Portrait makes its live debut on the local outlaw pub Dallas.
2007: In May the EP Into the Nothingness, recorded in February, becomes the first release of the newly formed German label New Iron Age. The production is horrible. The band makes several live appearances, among others on the Keep it True and Sweden Rock festivals. Portrait also appears on the compilation LP A New Age of Iron Vol. 1, released in November. In December the recording of an eight-song demo is started. The instrumental tracks are done within three days, by Lindell, Lagergren and Persson.
2008: In March, the aforementioned recording finally has a voice on top of it. The following month it is released as Portrait's debut album by High-Roller Records (LP) and I.K. Records. Portrait makes a couple of festival appearances, among others the Dutch Heavy Metal Maniacs and the French Long Live Metal ones. In July, vocalist Svennefelt is asked to leave the band. On the night before New Years Eve Portrait's new lead singer, Per Karlsson, is introduced, making his celebrated live debut on a show in Copenhagen.
2009: The year starts off with the 11 date long "Bow unto the Devil" European tour, finished off with playing the Up the Hammers festival in Athens. In May, bassist Stranderud leaves the band and is immediately replaced by Erik Jansson. Next up is a small summer festival tour, making stops at among others Headbangers Open Air and Hell's Pleasure (Germany), Hole in the Sky (Norway), Sweden Rock and Muskelrock (Sweden). In November, the band enters Berno Studio in Malmö, Sweden to record the EP The Murder of All Things Righteous.
