Torture Wheel was formed in late 2002 by E.M. Hearst as a side-project to Wraith of the Ropes. It is similar musically and in atmosphere to Wraith of the Ropes, but focuses more strictly on creating extreme Funeral Doom and, unlike Wraith of the Ropes, it has no Electronic elements. Musically Torture Wheel sounds very haunting, spooky and mythical. References to Esoteric's more haunting songs, Shape of Despair, Dolorian or Until Death Overtakes Me are not out of place. More metal then some Until Death Overtakes Me releases however. The distorted guitars keep this project in the Metal corner for sure. The name for this project was well chosen given the atmosphere of the music, this can perhaps best be described as "Horror Funeral Doom".
